Perstorp Flooring changed its name to Pergo, Inc in 2000. Perstorp was founded in 1923 as Perstorp Industrial Group, owned by Perstorp AB, a Swedish company founded in 1885 manufacturing vinegar for the food market in Europe.
The company began the process of laminating decorative tabletops in 1923. The concept spread to the flooring industry in 1977. The success of the process enabled expansion of their flooring operations throughout Europe in the late 1980's and early 1990's.
The successful new product, laminate flooring, was introduced in 1994 in the USA. Sales rose from $24 million to more than $250 million via a network of 3500 retailers.
Pergo built a 130,000 sq ft manufacturing facility in North Carolina in 1996. They are the market leader in laminate flooring sales in the USA.
